Triple Pass - Timing the shot
Skill: Timing the pass and shot, passing to the zone
Purpose: Develop a player's ability to time his pass into the slot zone. Develop a shooter's ability to quickly get the puck and get the most quality shot off that he can.
Directions: Players are set up in two lines in the quiet zones. At the directions of the leader the first in line from the left/lower skates a puck up and around the face off circle then returns through the slot and shoots on goal. The shooter continues through the slot exiting towards the bottom of the opposite face off circle and changing to backwards skating as he passes the right/upper line. The shooter continues around the top of the face off circle transitioning to forward skating, enters the high slot. The right/upper first in line makes a zone pass into the slot then skates to the back of the left/lower line. The shooter gets control of this puck quickly and shoots on goal. The shooter continues through the slot exiting towards the bottom of the original face off circle and changing to backwards skating as he passes the left/lower line. The shooter continues around the top of the face off circle transitioning to forward skating, enters the high slot. The next shooter from the lower/left line makes a zone pass into the slot then begins the drill as a new shooter. The shooter gets control of this puck quickly and shoots on goal. The shooter continues through the slot exiting the low slot and going to the back of the right/upper line.
Variations: Change the drill to a double pass if the drill does not move quick enough (cut off the last circle). Important to get as many repetitions in as possible with the fewest players standing or watching.
